Under the visionary leadership of Brother John D. Ellis, Jr. Esq., the 14th District Director, and Assistant District Director, Brother Jameel McKanstry, Alpha University in the Florida Federation was born. Brother John D. Ellis, Jr., Esq., reached out to Brother Dr. Gregory J. Harris with his idea of Alpha University for the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters and asked him to provide a proposal/blueprint for what Alpha University would like in the District. Alpha University would eventually replace the former District Round-ups/Leadership Summits and be used primarily for training and fraternal development. Brother Dr. Gregory J. Harris gladly accepted the challenge and provided a 13-page Draft Proposal of Alpha University of Florida (AUF) in the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters on January 20, 2009 as the official training system for the Brotherhood of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters to recruit and train a cadre of Brothers within the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters to better administer and expand chapter life and the Florida District. Subsequently, Brother Dr. Gregory J. Harris was asked to present the proposal formally on January 31, 2000 in Gainesville, Florida for the Board meeting. The proposal was accepted and courses were developed that spanned content across the 7 Colleges. The inaugural Alpha University in the Florida Federation was held on September 12, 2009 at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida.  The inaugural Alpha University drew 144 total registrants: 72 alumni brothers, 70 college brothers, and 2 no classified brothers. In the years to follow, the number of attendees at Alpha University continued to rise to the tune of 600+ just in the past year. All of the District Directors since Brother John D. Ellis, Jr. Esq., have re-appointed Brother Dr. Gregory J. Harris to this most important role as Dean/Director of Alpha University. In the Fall of 2020, Brother Dr. Gregory J. Harris was elected and appointed as the 17th District Director of the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters and has major plans to expand Alpha University and enhance our use of technology to engage the Brotherhood across a variety of topics and subject areas. Alpha University in the Florida Federation has been a model for many other Districts who have just recently started to push this concept within their borders and among their chapters and leaders.
