The College of Officer Development & Leadership is designed to engage new and continuing members in realistic and powerful training regarding their respective elected roles. Meaningful opportunities to better understand what key positions mean in terms of their personal, professional and chapter impact will be stressed under this college through the courses offered. General officer development is important to the strength of the chapter on the overall leadership of the Florida District. An individual focus will be placed on select positions as well to provide a more comprehensive training program and course offerings.
ODL 100: Presidential Leadership: This course is designed to focus on the leadership and responsibilities of the chapter president as the chief executive officer and to ensure a clear understanding of the role in the chapter and in the District.
ODL 101: Vice Presidential Leadership: This course is designed to shed light on the often-misunderstood role of the vice president and the many responsibility that vice president can play and have played within chapters. This is course stakes a serious look at the vice presidents’ current role and future opportunities in leadership expansion.
ODL 102: Financial Management: This course is designed to introduce and provide an overview and understanding of the role of the treasurer and the financial secretary within the chapter and to better manage chapter funds and systems to provide better stewardship. Additionally, this course will introduce strategies, techniques, and opportunities to expand existing structures and systems to enhance financial functioning of chapters.
ODL 103: Information Management Control: This course is designed to introduce the recording secretary, the corresponding secretary, the Associate Editor of the Sphinx, and the historian a clear understanding of their respective roles as well as how their roles complement one another. Further focus will be on the importance of these roles in supporting leadership and maintaining key documents and historical elements within the chapter and the district. Key strategies, tips, and systems for maintaining and managing information will also be explored.
ODL 104: Educational Leadership: This course is designed to provide greater insight, strategies, and techniques for the director of education or chairmen of education to promote the national, regional, district, and local projects and programs as well as share and explore techniques to advance the education of the communities served and the brotherhood.
ODL 105: Decorum Leadership & Management: This course is designed to focus on the supportive and leadership roles of the sergeant–at-arms, the parliamentarian, and the chaplain. A key focus of this course is to understand the individual roles of each position and how they all complement one another in maintaining order, decorum, and humane conduct in meetings, deliberations, and other public relations activities.
ODL 106: Membership Management: This course is designed to focus on the particulars associated with intake protocol, the standing orders, risk, and proper management of the intake process. A better understanding of the role of the membership chair will also be discussed and explored.
